With countries slowly getting to a new normal and finding ways to open up borders for essential travel again, here are some changes to expect –
Airports
- Social distancing measures within the airport (London airport has already started putting these in place)
- Temperature and other symptoms screenings for all travellers
- Disinfection and handwash stations spread throughout the airport
Flights
- Masks required for all passengers inside the flights
- Increased sanitary and disinfection procedures inside the flight - including tray tables, seat belts, and armrests
Journey
- A likely reduction in the number of passengers per flight to allow for social distancing norms - whether this will affect ticket prices is yet to be seen
- Quarantine or self-isolation for 14 days after travel also seems like a prudent step to be able to contact-trace the spread of the virus, if it does spread
Whatever the changes are, it is imperative to take precautions as individuals too and weight he risks against the necessity of travel as everything opens up again. Where possible, take that road trip, practice social distancing, wear masks, and stay safe.
